ophia has over 20 years mergers and acquisitions, international tax and indirect tax experience advising international corporations, financial institutions and family businesses across Europe, Middle East and Africa on cross-border transactions and tax restructuring.
She has also advised a wide range of HNW families and royal family members in the Middle East on asset protection and succession planning projects.
Sophia has worked extensively across many complex issues and territories, gained in both in “BIG 4” practices and major law firms such as Ernst & Young, KPMG and Baker McKenzie in Luxembourg and the UAE
Before setting up Yaz Tax Consultant, Sophia was the Tax Lead of Africa and Middle East projects (portfolio of over 110 companies) for Acwa Power, a major renewable energy group where she was involved in the tax review and optimization in relation to existing, post and new bids (solar panel, wind field, desalination plants and conventional projects) in the UAE, Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Turkey, Oman, Bahrain, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Indonesia. She also led the implementation of tax compliance processes and policies for the group to ensure proper review of tax returns as well as Economic Substance notification/reports.
